I defer to wiser brains

I'm writing this post with the Flock Web Browser, which both mointrigue and dhp have recommended to me for some time. I had resisted, content to clumsily keep a huge favorites folder, blog with all kinds of difficulty, and in general make my life much more difficult. Flock has, so far, fulfilled all of my expectations, and even gotten me to sign up for a flickr account, which flock makes incredibly easy. If you do anything more than aimlessly surf the net (and even if you just do that), flock is the browser for you. It takes a little getting used to, but that's only because it's so frigging convenient that you get bewildered by it.

I just subscribed to your Flickr using my Flock. Damn that sounds weird.

Anyway, I was pretty resistant to Flickr as I am with many services, but damn is it fun and useful.

Happy Flocking!

I actually am not so hot on Flock these days. I'll probably give it another try at some point, but I'm a little obsessive when it comes to my browsers. I like being able to completely customize my browser via Firefox, and FF 2 & 3 are going to be pretty awesome. Flock has got a lot going for it, but I'm not sold yet. It's designed to be highly useful to certain minority of users (the web 2.0 crowd) and while I certainly fall into that demographic I'm not super impressed. Most of the features that seem great are already scheduled for Firefox 2 & 3 over the next six months, and I really prefer http://performancing.com" rel="nofollow">Performancing for Firefox as a blogging tool.

That being said, if I used Flickr or photobucket more often I might be more inclined to use it. I'll probably give the beta another try, but so far I'm not sold on it.

I like Flock for the most part, although it doesn't work well at all with embedded PDF's, I've been using it for a bit on and off at work and it freezes with about every 4th pdf viewed. THis may be an Adobe Reader problem (god knows there are enough problems with that program) but Flock freezes quite a bit.

I do like the blogging tools, but I don't like the way they manage the favorites. WHile I dig the favorites toolbar, I have way too many things in my favorites to keep switching back and forth to the favorites manager to get to them. THe integrated news reader is really nice as well.

I'll probably keep using it at home, but right now I can't really use it for work at all.

Overall I'd give it about a 7 out of 10, but I still prefer IE or Firefox to Flock at this point. A lot of useful tools, but it definitely needs a little work at this point.
