Quentin's Weeknotes 9/19/21-9/25/21
This Week:
- In MUST251: North American Material culture, we talked about Cahokia, and the city as material culture, drawing on Annalee Newitz' wonderful new book “Four Lost Cities." We also talked about tobacco pipes in North America, and the changing role of tobacco in Indigenous and colonial contexts.
- I ordered this wonderful mug from the HP Lovecraft Historical Society in Providence, RI.
- The Yager Museum held its Fall Reception for New Exhibits, including “‘For the Moment, living images’: Masks of Mexico and Beyond” which I co-curated with Nora Mendez.
- I finished reading M. John Harrison’s short-story collection “Things That Never Happen” which collects some of his short fiction from the late 1970s until the 1990s. It’s brilliant and insightful writing that I lingered over for a long time.
