A Head Full of Ghosts Paul Tremblay 2016/12/01 5 William Morrow, 2015 Read My Notes
Remaking Society Murray Bookchin 2016/11/26 4 Black Rose Books, 1992 A simple, readable book on anarchism and ecology by one of the great 20th century thinkers on both subjects. I really appreciate Bookchin’s synthesis of anthropology, history, and humanistic ethics as he built a case for an ecologically and socially free society (not simply a just one–he makes a distinction between these concepts). Some of the conclusions I found sort of truncated and partial, but overall, his commitment to action and human engagement as political ends unto themselves was a breath of fresh air, when so much of our political discourse is all about thinking our way through problems.
Rat Queens, Vol. 2: The Far Reaching Tentacles of N’rygoth Kurtis J. Wiebe, Roc Upchurch, Stjepan Šejić 2016/11/23 5 Image Comics, 2015 Delightful, dark, and funny
Marvel Comics: The Untold Story Sean Howe 2016/11/08 4 Harper, 2012 Read My Notes
Uzumaki Junji Ito 2016/10/08 5 VIZ Media, 2013 A stunning, creepy, and engrossing horror manga. The premise is simple–a town in Japan begins experiencing strange events, all of which emerge along with the appearance of spirals of all types, and in many different contexts. This basic convention gradually builds on itself, culminating in a conclusion that is satisfying without giving away the store. The art, imagery, and characters are all subtly and powerfully rendered. I’d never read anything by Ito before, but I’m going to seek out more of his work now!
The Elephant in the Room Jon Ronson 2016/10/08 3 2016
Check the Technique: Liner Notes for Hip-Hop Junkies Brian Coleman 2016/10/04 5 Villard, 2007 If you like even one of the records in this book, you’ll love the whole thing. It’s an oral history, and track-by-track breakdown of some of the best hip-hop ever produced. Some of the records I knew, some I didn’t, but I learned something from every entry.

The Awesome Eva Darrows 2016/07/05 5 Ravenstone, 2015 I started this book yesterday and kept finding excuses to read it. Now I’ve finished it and it was wonderful. A book about feminism, sex, and monster hunting….it was just a delightful treat from start to finish. Maggie (the main character) has such a great voice, and all of the characters are complicated, interesting, and fun to get to know.
